2017 Spring Special Program in Applied Mathematics and Applied Mechanics

應用數學與應用力學專題演講系列

In the history, mathematics has been most inspired by the development of a variety of branches in mechanics such as dynamics, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, electromagnetics as well as modern mechanics. Nowadays, applied mechanics covers a wide range of applications in science and engineering, probing into the small such as the activity of electrons in solids, motion of electrolyte in nano-fluidics, functions of human cells and organisms, encompassing the daily-life scales in various engineering disciplines such as civil engineering, mechanical, chemical, materials and so on, extending to the large such as geophysical flows in ocean and atmosphere and beyond. The cross-links between mechanics and mathematics largely shape the outlook of modern science and technology. The faculty and students who are interested in applying mathematics to any field of interest are encouraged to participate in this seminar series by giving talks, discussing questions and/or sharing their knowledge and experience.

從歷史角度而言,數學的發展及其在力學的應用乃息息相關,這水乳交融的關係不獨激勵了數學思維、也豐富了力學的內容,影響所及包涵古典力學、流體力學、固體力學、電動力學以及近代力學等等。時至今日,力學的研究範疇跨越各時空尺度,其精準度譬喻於「差之毫釐、失之須臾」,細小探微者如生命物質傳輸現象、日常生活者涵蓋各項工程科學、犖犖其大者如地球科學、乃至天體動力學。力學與數學的交叉整合很大程度地反應現代科技的面貌。本學期我們邀請了國內、外各領域相關的專家學者,作專題演講及進行廣泛討論,演講內容淺出深入,清晰陳述問題背景、最新成果及當前研究前沿問題,竭誠歡迎欲新手入門者及已富有經驗之研究學者聆聽、參與討論。
